The MU-90 Impact, which began as the Murene (Moray), is a lightweight, 12.75-in (324-mm), anti-submarine torpedo developed by the French navy. It was designed to replace older lightweight torpedoes in French service, primarily the U.S. Mk 44 and Mk 46. In 1991, the French Thomson-Marconi Murene and Italian Whitehead Alenia A-290 torpedo programs were combined into one effort as the MU-90 Impact, under the Eurotorp consortium.
