The Mk 44 is a lightweight, 12.75-in (324-mm) torpedo for use against submarines by helicopters, aircraft and surface ships. The Mk 44 was the U.S. Navy's first lightweight torpedo, being developed to a size and weight requirement for use from airships ("blimps").
