The ASIO is a mini-vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) designed to perform "hover and stare" and "perch and stare" battlefield surveillance, forward reconnaissance and special operations support missions. Other potential missions include urban operations, perimeter patrol, force protection and convoy overwatch.
The aircraft is intended to serve as a critical node in fully integrated network operations.
