The E-8 aircraft carries the airborne elements of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (J-STARS). J-STARS combines technologies developed in the Air Force's Pave Mover and Army's Stand-Off Target Acquisition System (SOTAS) programs. Joint-STARS is sometimes referred to as JSTARS.
