The AW149 is a multirole helicopter derived from the AW139 design (see separate record). It is larger and heavier than the AW139 in order to fill the niche between light-medium and medium-heavy lift helicopters. It is capable of performing battlefield support, command-and-control, medical evacuation and combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) missions.
