The CarterCopter was a technology demonstrator for a slowed rotor/compound helicopter design. Developer Jay Carter pushed the design as a platform for achieving record rotorcraft speeds. It was designed to overcome the Mu-1 barrier. The CarterCopter was a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that used the rotor for takeoff and landing, and a propeller and small fixed wing for high-speed flight. Theoretically, the CarterCopter could reach 497 mph (430 kts).
