France's Mirage IV was the only strategic bomber in service that was designed outside of the U.S. or the former Soviet Union. The Mirage IV was derived from the Mirage III fighter aircraft, but was considerably modified for the bomber role. At the end of its service life, French Mirage IVs were operational only in the strategic reconnaissance role.
