Derived from the successful EMB 312 Tucano primary training aircraft, the Super Tucano is bigger and more powerful to take on the light attack role as the single-seater A-29, while replacing the aging AT-26 Xavante jet trainer as the two-seat AT-29. A principal role for the A-29 is support for Brazil's SIVAM (Sisteme de Vigiencia de Amazonia), the Amazonian protection regime, by conducting border patrols, counterinsurgency missions and interdicting illegal activity.
