MiG-29 Fleet. In the NATO bombing during the Kosovo intervention of 1999, much of Serbia's air force was destroyed, as were the facilities used to overhaul and maintain its equipment.
By May 2004, the leftover fleet of MiG-29s had been grounded due to a lack of fuel and spare parts. Insufficient funding meant that the planes had received no overhauls since delivery in 1987. The fleet was kept operational from 1999 into 2004 only through a series of selective repairs.
