The Serbian armed forces ended conscription on January 1, 2011.

The armed forces consist of more than 28,000 personnel, plus another 50,000 voluntary reserves (obligated to six months of service). The Guard consists of 1,600 troops, plus another 5,200 Ministry of Defense employees. The Guard is based in Belgrade and subordinate to the General Staff.

The Serbian Land Forces (Kopnena Vojska, or KoV) were established toward the end of 2007.
