Ireland's total active defense forces currently number around 8,000. Service is voluntary, and terms are three years long.
 
Since a reorganization in 2012, the Army has been composed of two brigades, each with a designated territory of responsibility. There is 1 Southern Brigade in Cork and 2 Eastern Brigade out of Dublin.
