The 1ST LT. HARRY L. MARTIN was the first unit of the Marine Prepositioning Ship (Enhancement) (MPS-E) program. The ship is assigned to Military Sealift Command. The ships in the MPS-E program were intended to carry expeditionary airfields, Seabee construction equipment and field hospital cargo.  The ship is now part of MSC's surge sealift fleet.
