The DD(X) next-generation destroyer, subsequently called the ZUMWALT class, was intended to be the centerpiece of a family of three surface ships: a destroyer, known as DD(X) (which became DDG-1000); a cruiser, known as CG(X); and the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).
