ANTEO relieved PROTEO as the fleet's submarine rescue ship (ASR) and submersible tender in 1980. She carries U.S. Navy-style submarine rescue equipment, including a McCann rescue chamber and two decompression chambers. Since 2000, she has also carried an SRV 300 rescue submersible since 2000.
