The ships of the WASP class are the world's largest amphibious ships. They are intended to operate Harrier attack aircraft and helicopters. In an attempt to maximize the number of flight deck helicopter landing spots, these ships do not have ski-jump ramps to assist vertical/short takeoff and landing (V/STOL) operations.
