The SSQ-77B VLAD (Vertical Line Array DIFAR) is an "A"-sized passive search sonobuoy that uses DIFAR (directional frequency and recording) technology.

The VLAD has omni-directional hydrophones in a vertical line array, permitting a greater number of sensors to deploy from a single unit. A single directional hydrophone is located in the center to provide target-bearing data. This improves its performance in noisy water environments such as shallow water.
