The AN/SSQ-75 Expendable Reliable Acoustic Path Sonobuoy (ERAPS) was planned to actively seek very quiet submarines. It was based on the knowledge of long-range sound propagation along the reliable acoustic path (RAP) at extreme ocean depths.
This system would have been larger than other sonobuoys and would have been carried as an external store. When deployed at RAP depth, it would have extended a circular array resembling an Art Deco chandelier and transmit its information...
