The AN/SSQ-47B is a second-generation, active non-directional sonobuoy. The system is an upgraded, deep-water version of the AN/SSQ-15 sonobuoy.

The solid-state system uses a transducer and antenna scan patterns for more accurate threat detection. The sonobuoy is compatible with Sparton's D-1135/A processor and displays such as the AN/AQA-7(V), AN/ASA-76 or OL-82/AYS.
