The AN/SSQ-41B is an A-sized omni-directional, passive detection sonobuoy (LOFAR -- location finding and ranging type). It was developed from the AN/SSQ-41 and is capable of detecting first- and second-generation submarine threats. The SSQ-41B was replaced as the U.S. Navy's mainstay sonobuoy by th e AN/SSQ-53B.
