The AN/SSQ-101 Air Deployed Active Receiver (ADAR) is an expendable, non-repairable sonobuoy designed as a receiver for shallow-water multistatic systems.
The sonobuoy features a high-gain multi-element planar hydrophone array with in-buoy processing and a digital uplink. It is designed to use the SSQ-110 extended echo-ranging (EER) system as its source. The SSQ-101 can receive commands via a UHF downlink and transmits data along a VHF uplink to the monitoring unit.
