description
This is the towed array sonar being fitted to new British anti-submarine frigates. The array can be used in both tactical and surveillance roles. The advanced signal processor allows tracking of very quiet targets. Excellent bearing accuracy is provided even down to the lower acoustical ranges.
A frigate or destroyer equipped with this sonar is usually used as an ASW picket, being positioned well away from the "noisy" task force so that its sensors can work unhindered.
