This sonar intercept system was developed by a British-French-Dutch consortium headed by Thomson-CSF (now Thomson Marconi). PARIS stands for passive/active range-and-intercept system. Originally fitted in the SWIFTSURE-class nuclear-propelled submarines, the Type 2019 has been fitted in all British subs.
