The MD 100S is a passive, range-finding sonar seen as an improvement on the older MD 100 set. The MD 100S is designed for installation on submarines as a stand-alone system or as part of an integrated sonar system, sharing command and display facilities.
The rangefinder has been fitted in the Improved SAURO-class submarines of the Italian navy as part of the IPD 70S sonar system as a passive triangulation ranger.
