The Low Frequency Towed Array Sonar (LFTAS) is a long-range sonar designed for use with surface vessels. Germany developed the system for use with its BRANDENBURG-class frigates.
The system uses an omnibody with two transducers on a 1,300-ft (400-m) cable, which tows a twin-line array on a 800-ft (250-m) cable. The array provides left and right resolution and has a hydrophone section and a visual information management system (VIMS) at each end.
