The DSQS 11 is a hull-mounted mine-avoidance sonar. It was designed for use in submarines and many types of surface ships, but has been deployed only in minesweepers.
The sonar is used as a navigational aid in mined areas and is geared toward detecting moored mines. Once the mine is located, its bearing, distance and depth are displayed. Bearing can be displayed in reference to the ship, or North or in a true motion mode.
