The AN/SQS-53 is a large active/passive submarine detection sonar for surface warships. It is an improved version of the AN/SQS-26CX sonar, and is housed in a bow dome and reportedly the most advanced surface ship anti-submarine warfare (ASW) sonar system currently in use by the U.S. Navy.
