AN/SQS-26

Country of Origin: USA

description

The AN/SQS-26 is an active/passive sonar for surface warships. The high-power, low-frequency transducer is housed in a large bow dome. This was the first major bow-mounted sonar in U.S. ships.

It was first fitted in two U.S. BRONSTEIN-class (FF-1037) frigates in August of 1962. (Those frigates were sold to Mexico in 1993; they are still serving in the Mexican navy, as of this update, as the NICOLAS BRAVO and HERMENEGILDO GALEANA .)
