The AN/SQR-14 and 15 were the first long-range, towed sonar arrays used operationally by the US Navy. Also known as Towed Array Surveillance System (TASS ), the SQR-15 was supported by an equipment van on the ships' fantail, permitting it to be "cross-decked" between ships. This was a passive detection system.
