The British Type 909 radar is the target tracking and illumination radar for the Sea Dart shipboard surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.
The 909 tracks targets that have been detected and handed off by the Type 996 three-dimensional air search radar. It also illuminates the target for the Sea Dart's semi-active radar (SAR) homing seeker. The Type 909 is also said to be able to support surface gunfire.
