The French Calypso series of submarine-fitted surface search radars was developed by Thomson-CSF from the earlier DRUA 33, which entered French naval service in 1964. The radars are designed for effective use in high-noise marine environments.
The transmitter is frequency-adjustable and can operate in several modes: continuous scan, sectoral, 0.1- or 1-second burst, or passive (receive only).
