The AN/SPS-53 is a high-resolution, short-range surface search and navigation radar, developed for use on small ships and boats.
It uses a 5-ft (1.5-m) slotted array antenna, which emits 40-kW pulses of 0.5-microsecond duration with pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 750 pulses per second (pps) in long-range mode, and of 0.1-microsecond duration with PRF of 1,500 pps in short-range mode.
