The AN/SPG-55 U.S. Navy "searchlight" illumination and guidance radar was fitted in ships armed with the Terrier /Standard-ER, surface-to-air missile. Most ships have two radar sets for each missile launcher; thus, a "double-end" (two-launcher) missile cruiser with four SPG-55s could simultaneously engage up to four targets. The radar was the successor to AN/SPQ-5 and was used with the Mk 76 missile fire-control system.
