The AN/SPG-53 is an X-band fire-control radar for the Mk 68 gunfire control system for use with Mk 42 5-in (127-mm) dual-purpose guns. It is a modified AN/SPG-48 fire-control radar.

The radar's antenna has a diameter of 60 in (1.524 m) and weighs 163 lb (73.8 kg). The overall system weighs 5,000 lb (2,265 kg). It has a peak power of 250 kW.
