The Active Phased-Array Radar (APAR) is a multifunction, multinational, three-dimensional active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar intended for the Trilateral Frigate Cooperation (TFC) designs built in Germany and the Netherlands. (Spain was the third member of the "trilateral" arrangement.) Canadian company Nortel was also involved in the development process. The APAR was the first European-made multifunction AESA radar to enter service, according to the manufacturer.
