The Sentinel is a man-portable battlefield surveillance radar that is designed to detect and locate any moving object at ranges up to 2 nm (2.4 mi, 3.8 km). To minimize weight and to enhance ruggedness and reliability, the design features all solid-state circuitry.

The Sentinel transmits a continuous wave (CW) radio frequency signal for azimuth and range. Change from one mode to the other is accomplished by just operating a switch.
