The AN/TPY-2 is a phased-array ground mobile radar designed to detect and track theater ballistic missile threats. It forms the heart of the Terminal High-Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) system. Raytheon has also proposed the system's architecture to be part of a land-based SM-3 missile defense system to be deployed in Europe as part of the U.S. Phased Adaptive Approach, with an eye to Iran's ballistic missile program.
