The AN/TPQ-53 is an advanced counterfire target acquisition radar. The S-band solid-state phased-array radar detects, classifies, tracks and determines the location of enemy indirect fire. It operates in either 90-deg or 360-deg modes. The radar, originally known as the Enhanced AN/TPQ-36 (EQ-36), is replacing the aging AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder radars in U.S. Army service.
