The AN/ALQ-147 is an infrared countermeasures (IRCM) system. Essentially an improved version of the ALQ-132, it contains a ceramic IR emitter that is heated by burning JP fuel with ram air. Because of this characteristic, the ALQ-147 is designed for aircraft having limited electrical power resource s, such as the U.S. Army OV-1 /RV-1 Mohawk .
The IR output of the system is modulated mechanically to provide the jamming signal and there is a filter to reduce visible emissions...
