The AN/ALQ-119 was the first U.S. dual-mode jammer to enter mass production. It was initiated as QRC-552 in 1970.

It is a three-band system -- with E/F, F/H and I bands. The dual-mode system includes noise jamming and repeater deception jamming capabilities through a dual-mode traveling wave tube (TWT).

The ALQ-119 went through numerous update programs, being sufficiently modified to earn a new designator (ALQ-184) for a subsequent variant.
