AN/GRC-106 is a high-frequency (HF), single sideband (SSB), mobile communication link, although it may be used as a fixed or semi-fixed radio as well. It is compatible with standard amplitude modulated (AM) radios and is the basic radio set for newer SSB radio teletypewriters. Current tactical spee ch security equipment is not compatible with this radio and, therefore, it has no secure voice operation mode.
