Magic Lantern is a helicopter-borne, mine-detecting laser radar (LIDAR).

At its heart is a neodymium YAG (yttrium-aluminum-garnet) blue-green laser that casts a large spot of energy at relatively low pulse repetition frequencies (PRF). There is a pulse width of 1 nanosec; output is approximately 1/2 joule.

Fibertek's solid-state laser takes advantage of steady improvements in image-processing to permit wide-area scanning both in area and in depth.
