The AN/APG-79 AESA (active electronically scanned array) is a multi-mode fire-control radar based on the AN/APG-73 and built by Raytheon as a replacement for that system in the F/A-18E/F multirole fighter.
Introduction of the AN/APG-79 into the F/A-18 E/F will increase the fighter's air-to-air detection and tracking range. It will also provide higher resolution air-to-ground mapping at extended ranges.
