The SUBROC was a rocket-propelled nuclear depth bomb that could be launched from standard 21-in (533-mm) submarine torpedo tubes. After being launched, the missile streaked to the surface, left the water, and traveled on a ballistic trajectory for a predetermined time. At that point, the booster would fall away and the bomb re-entered the water at supersonic speed, detonating at a preset depth.
