B53: The B53 was a nuclear gravity bomb that entered service in 1962. It was designed to be carried by B-52 bombers and had a yield of 9 megatons. The bomb looked like a large can with a rounded nose. At the aft end were four rectangular stabilizing fins with a broad wedge profile. It was highly inaccurate, which was made up for by its power. The B53 was an early bunker buster munition and intended to be used against Soviet underground command-and-control facilities.
