The M117 was a 750-lb (340-kg) freefall general-purpose unguided bomb. The basic configuration dated to the Korean War and was designed for medium- and high-altitude delivery.
It had a low-drag cylindrical body with an ogival nose and four fixed fins at the back. The M117 used the MAU-103 tail unit in basic low-drag bombing operations.
The M 117 could accept the BSU-93 "ballute" retard system. In this configuration it was carried internally or externally by the B-52 bomber.
