This cluster bomb can be used with a variety of proximity fuzes or a mechanical timed fuze, and uses the softball-sized BLU-61/B bomblet. The CBU-52/B is used in conjunction with the SUU-30 submunitions dispenser. It is designed to explode upon impact.
The SUU-30 dispenser was first developed in the 1960s; the CBU-52/B was developed in the early 1970s.
