The BLU-109 is a 2,000-lb (910-kg) blast and fragmentation bomb used by the United States. It is slim when compared to the Mk 84 bomb, and has a casing that is about twice as hard, with a single-piece, forged warhead of 1-in thick high-grade steel. It typically uses the FMU-143 tail fuze. The lack of a nose fuze makes the nose stronger. The base plate is reinforced to better protect the fuze from the shock of impact.
