The Al-Samoud surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) was reportedly a variant of the SA-2 Guideline surface-to-air missile (SAM) adapted for striking land-based targets. The term "al-samoud" can be translated to mean "steadfastness" or "endurance" in Arabic. The road-mobile missile was likely carried on and fired from a transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) similar to those used for the Scud missile.
