The French-developed Exocet family of anti-ship missiles consists of surface-launched (MM 38, MM 40), aircraft-launched (AM 39), and submarine-launched (SM 39) variants. In the AM 39 version, Exocets have seen more combat than any other Western anti-ship missile. The AM 39 missile has cruciform double-tapered mainplanes of greater span than the MM 38 and cropped tips indexed in-line with tailplanes that are less swept than in the MM 38.
