The AGM-45 was the first built-for-purpose anti-radar missile to enter mass production in the United States. It was based, in part, on the AIM-7 Sparrow air-to-air missile. It consists of four sections: a guidance system, the warhead, the control system and the single-stage solid-fuel rocket motor.
The missile is a long cylinder with an ogival nose, cruciform delta steerable foreplanes at mid-body and stubby tail fins.
